I've been thinking a lot lately about how AI is reshaping leadership and organizational design. This isn't a gradual evolution we'll notice in hindsight — it's a revolutionary shift happening right now, in front of us.
To see where we're headed, it helps to look back. Management theory has always mirrored its era. Taylor gave us scientific management, optimizing humans around tasks. Maslow shifted the lens to people, motivation, and meaning. Later thinkers embraced organizations as complex, living systems. Each wave reflected what was scarce and what was valuable at the time.
Now we're entering a new era: the AI-Native Organization.
This is widely misunderstood. An AI-native company isn't one that bolts a chatbot onto old workflows to shave minutes off manual tasks. It's a business restructured from the bottom up — designed so that humans and AI can co-evolve and collaborate as genuine partners. The org chart itself changes shape.
Three shifts keep pulling my attention.
𝗗𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗽𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴. The bloated hierarchy — layers of specialists passing work down a chain — is giving way to something radically flat: the "Super Individual + Intelligent Agents." Picture one Super Product Manager who holds the vision and orchestrates an entire ecosystem of AI agents beneath them. Work that once required a department now runs through a single empowered person with the right tools.
𝗩𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗱. For generations we trained people to be the nuts and bolts of a bigger machine — precise, narrow, replaceable. But as fixed roles dissolve, hyper-specialization in a single execution task may actually cap your growth. The people who thrive will be those who can see across the whole, not just polish one corner of it.
𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆. What's genuinely rare now is judgment and 鉴赏力 — the capacity to appreciate what's truly excellent. Interestingly, the old criticism 眼高手低 (high standards, weak execution) is no longer an insult. When AI can handle the execution, having the taste to recognize great work becomes the ultimate advantage.
I've felt this personally. I have no coding background, yet every app in my recent showcase was built by my AI agent, tailored to exactly how I think and work. I didn't write the code — I held the vision, and refined it until it was right. That experience convinced me: the bottleneck is no longer technical skill. It's imagination and discernment.
This is the part I find hopeful. For so long, many of us absorbed the quiet belief that we weren't "technical enough" to build, create, or lead at the edge. That story is ending. In an AI-native world, your curiosity, your standards, and your sense of what's worth making matter more than ever.
AI can handle the execution. The vision has to be yours.
